Hypocrisy in the British Government

Hypocrisy isn't a crime, but there's no better way to destroy respect and credibility in one's opinions.

October, 1998

The British Government announces that it is extremely upset with the Government of Sierra Leone following the execution of a number of people involved in acts of insurrection earlier in the year.

Apparently; the Foreign Office telephoned the Sierra Leone Government asking that they show some clemency in this matter.

Such clemency was not forthcoming and the British Government is quite rightly upset.

October, 1998

Jamaicans facing execution appeal to the Privy Council, based in London, to have their sentance reconsidered.

The Privy Council, part of the British judiciary system, upholds the sentance and the Jamaicans are duly executed.

The Foriegn Office says nothing and the British Government by implication permit, even condone, the execution of individuals that it obviously, legally, has power and control over.

October, 1998

Just another month in the life of the British Government.
