The Few, The Proud, The Small

A sort of Toy Story meets Action Man meets The A-Team
meets Mad Max; a brilliant action film, and not just for kids ( or young
adults ). A full-length feature of those American-style disaster documentaries;
"When Toys Go Bad".
Globotech take over Heartland Toys and, on the premise, "Wouldn't it be great if
the toys did what the adverts claimed ?", the Commando Elite and their enemy,
the Gorgonites, are born. With the world's most advanced microprocessor chip embedded inside, and a
battery that doesn't need replacing, the most sophisticated toy ever is
created. Of course, as soon as the Commando Elite are out of the box they are off
hunting the Gorgonite Scum leaving carnage and destruction in their wake.
The computer generated images were superbly done, with unnoticable matting,
superb camera synchronisation, and the animatronics were excellent.
A proper action film with enough violence ( sorry, "action" ) to keep it
above the level of banal and interspersed with some adult humour; "Meet my
wife; the ball and chain". The plot was a little contrived in getting there but
it made it in the end. As the head of Globotech put it, "This would make a brilliant commercial"; I
think it did. The number of children that are going to be disappointed that
their Chip Hazard doesn't actually walk and talk unprompted remains to
be seen. Move over Tellytubbies, Interactive Barnies and Action Men; meet the Commando
Elite, "Everything else is just a toy".
