Question
If the distance I travel to and from work is the same in both directions
and I average 60 mph going to work but ony 30 mph coming home ...
What is my average speed overall ? Answer
Although the travelling distance isn't important; let's assume it is 60
miles. At 60 mph, from home to work; it takes 1 hour to do 60 miles.
At 30 mph, from work back home; it takes 2 hours to do 60 miles.
It has therefore taken a total of 3 hours to travel 120 miles; 40 miles per
hour.
