Well it's got a 15 certificate and it's from Buena Vista ( Disney for those who
aren't keeping up to date ) so it's going to be a little tame anyway, but,
there are some good moments and the special effects, although not brilliant,
are very good.
The plot; scientists develop DNA altered bugs to wipe-out a colony
of nasties that are causing a bit of an epidemic. Three years on the bugs
have mutated and are poised to wipe out humanity. By an amazing coincidence
the husband and wife team ( significant partners ? ) that created the b-----ds
in the first place rediscover the, now somewhat evolved, terrors. So off they
go looking for them. The first half of the film is more likely to bore, rather than scare, you to
death but it does pick up in the second half once people start getting killed
proper. There are some classic coincidences throughout the film ( everyone manages
to find everyone else below the New York underground ) and some amazing
deductions such as, "We've only seen females so far; if they were males
they'd be a lighter grey", which is pretty inspired as we haven't seen
any males so far and the nice lady making the claim hadn't predicted that
these bugs would mutate lungs. The moral issue of our heroes having created these buggers in the first place
is pretty neatly skipped over and the obligatory happy ending is in place.
The second half makes up for the first; entertaining if you don't get too
bored early on but not one for the video collection. Oh my God; They've killed Kenny ! B-----ds !
