This blockbuster remake of the sixties television series claims to have so
many special effects that there is one in each scene, usually two and
quite often three.
Indeed, there were so many special effects that there was obviously no money
left over to purchase a script or get a decent screenplay rolling. This film therefore has a very simple plot ...
The Robinson family head off in their spacecraft to build a hyperjump
thingummyjig between Earth and some far off planet. The evil Doctor Smith,
trying to prevent the venture, ends up trapped with them on their journey.
The spacecraft gets all mangled up and in their efforts to survive crashing
into the Sun are thrown off into some uncharted piece of space.
End of plot. The rest of the film consists entirely of the Robinson's
bimbling about aimlessly whilst showing of the latest special effect
techniques. Which includes a cute, if you like that sort of thing, animated monkey. And
it changes colour. And why is it in the film ? Who can tell.
Then the film ends with some flashy, epileptic inducing, closing credits.
Thanks a lot. Perhaps the Robinson family will all be horribly mutilated and die agonisingly
in Lost in Space 2 but it seems unlikely. The sequel can't be too far
away in the pipeline. Unfortunately.
