Despite its early and German origins the film has held its presence well and is an incredible mix of future vision and social conflict intertwined with a a love story. The now obligatory mad scientist and robotic manequin created real excitement and terror when it was first released. The quality and implementation of the special effects are phenomenal given the date of production. In 1984 Georgio Moroder released his own re-tinted version complete with a new sound track of rock music. With the film re-edited and additional stills added, to fill in missing footage from the original release, the running time increased to 139 minutes. The Moroder version is easily the most watchable and entertaining version and, although the sound track may not be to everyone's taste, I feel that this infact keeps the film its classic status even today.
